Plus what? A tiny unit study on Grant Wood as an offshoot of our writing project. From the library we checked out Grant Wood: The Artist in the Hayloft and Grant Wood (Getting to Know the World’s Greatest Artists) from the library to read and about which to write book reports. We went to the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art, where we should be able to find the largest collection of Grant Wood’s art but, unfortunately, we only saw some prints of it in the museum store.
Last year, some of you may recall seeing in the news the flood that ocurred in our city. Well, the museum suffered some damage. Some of the artwork was damaged by the water itself, and some of it by the humidity. All of it (I believe) is restorable. However, the basement of the museum is still being repaired, and until they are finished with that, the 2nd floor of the museum is being used as storage, so the museum only has one floor open to the public right now. It seems they are using this for temporary exhibits. It was very depressing to me, but the kids seemed very happy to see the temporary exhibits, which included a lot of photgraphs and some videos, and posters of Grant Wood’s paintings.
